My Golden Retriever will sometimes get dry skin. When he does, we put a tablespoon of olive oil in his food every other day for a week or so, and it clears right up.

Help him at first by keeping your floors as clutter free as possible. Then for at least a couple weeks attach him to you with a leash as you walk around the house. This will help to build his muscle and scent memory.

I own a Boston terrier and a cat. The best way I have found, short of not allowing them on the furniture, is a pet hair roller. It is basically a lint brush that specializes in pet hair.
