Canine cancer treatment can be limited to traditional options such as chemotherapy or can comprise a more holisitic approach.
Traditional options for canine cancer treatment are varied. Surgery can be performed to remove some cancers, especially if the cancer has not yet spread. Radiation and chemotherapy can also help some dogs recover from cancer.
Other treatments for canine cancer include photodynamic therapy and hyperthermia.
Holistic approaches to canine cancer treatment seek to treat your dog as a whole animal, whereas traditional approaches focus simply on the removal of the disease. Holisitic approaches include homeopathy, acupuncture, and chiropractic. They should be used in conjunction with traditional methods.
Your vet will be able to prescribe pain medications during canine cancer treatment. Your dog should not have to suffer while undergoing cancer treatment.
Chemotherapy should not cause your dog to vomit. However, if your dog does begin to vomit due to the chemotherapy, make sure to keep your dog well hydrated. Excess vomiting can leads to dehydration and can cause your dog's health to deterioriate quickly.
Keep your dog well fed. A feeding tube may be necessary if your dog can no longer eat on his own. Canine cancer treatment diets should be individually tailored.
