of Feline Veterinary Medical Information Cushing's Disease Cushing's disease is pretty unusual in cats but it is being reported more often in the last few years than has previously been the case. It is most commonly recognized as a complication of feline diabetes when insulin resistance occurs. The most consistent medical treatment is probably metyrapone but ketaconazole and mitotane (Lysodren Rx) have also been used in cats with success in some cases. Adrenalectomy (removal of the adrenal gland) has been proposed as a possible treatment for hyperadrenocortism because medical treatment has been inconsistent. There appears to be a pretty high surgical risk, though.
