Answer:

Our older Shih-Tzu female gets seasonal allergies that really make her sick. Her eyes get watery and her skin actually starts to dry out and flake off. We took her to the vet and he prescribed her with eye drops and a special shampoo that we use to keep her skin moist.

I have a rat terrier that was always scratching. At first we thought it was just normal scratching, but after a while we realized that something wasn't right. After trying several things we determined that our dog was allergic to wheat which can be food in most commercial dog foods. We ended up having to switch to an all natural dog food and we also supplement with our own fresh food such as boiled chicken and some vegetables.

My Australian Cattle Dog has a skin allergy to the laundry detergent that we use. When we he would snuggle with us, he would get a rash if we were wearing newly washed clothing. We changed the detergent to an allergen free one, and the problem was solved.

Answer:

I have a dog who has allergies to fleas, grasses and apparently pollen. This poor little weiner dog mix gets sneezy just like a person. She also gets skin rashes and will itch herself raw. On top of this she gets hot spots, places that actually feel warm to the touch. A vet suggested a small dosage of children's benedryl. Every morning I give her about 1/4 teaspoon of the liquid, then again 8 hours later. I also use the benedryl salve on her skin. Sometimes hot spots are miserable so I use a over the counter product made specifically for hot spots. I bathe her in a human shower product made for allergies. I look for one with oatmeal in it. It seems to soothe her skin. We went to the vet and tried prescriptions. She even had injections of anti allergy medications, these did not help much at all. The bendryl seems to help so much more and I only use it when you can see that the allergies are bothering her. I suppose the bendryl dosage would be adjusted based on your dog's size. I would check with your vet to be certain, but know it has helped out little girl a lot.
