Lyme dogs can usually recover from Lyme disease symptoms within a few weeks with proper antimicrobial therapy.
Lyme in dogs should be treated right away, as it can lead to permanent nerve damage.
Dog Lyme disease is usually treated with antibiotics. Usually a tetracycline or penicillin-based antibiotic is prefered.
The minimum course of treatment is 14 days. Some dogs may need to remain on antibiotics for thirty days or more.
Antibiotics do not completely eradicate the Lyme disease bacteria from your dog'd body. The bacteria will remain laternt, so symptoms of Lyme disease in dogs can recur weeks or months after antibiotic treatment has ended; in this case, treatment will need to be repeated.
Antimicrobial treatment may be combined with antibiotic treatment to help suppress the Lyme bacteria within your dog's body.
Most dogs begin to improve within 48 hours of beginning medication, and have recovered fully within two weeks.
