It's common to hear your dog snoring in his sleep. Dogs snore when something is obstructing their upper airway passage. This is bothersome especially if the snoring is loud and lasts the whole night, as it may disturb his sleep pattern. Amidst several others causes of dog snoring, allergies that cause snoring might be overlooked.
Your dog may inhale air borne pollen and allergens that form mucus in his airways. This mucus obstructs his nostrils or nasal passage and causes snoring. Snoring is also common in dogs suffering from colds and nasal discharge. Although snoring is not a serious health concern, it may make your pet sleepy and tired. Try to find out the cause of his snoring and watch for signs like heavy, loud snoring or difficulty breathing during the day. These signs maybe due to underlying illnesses that require vet intervention.
Physical exam and blood test can detect if your dog is suffering from allergies. If allergens are the cause of dog snoring make sure you keep his bedding clean and walk him outdoors when the levels of pollen are low.
