Endosorb is an inexpensive and effective anti-diarrheal for use in cats, dogs and horses. Although generally prescribed to dogs, Endosorb tablets and suspensions are also commonly prescribed for cats as well. Endosorb helps to reduce the symptoms associated with feline diarrhea. However, because diarrhea is itself a symptom of other, underlying health conditions, it is important to also work with a veterinarian to determine the cause of your pet's health problems. Without actively addressing the reason behind your cat's diarrhea, you may find that the symptoms return following cessation of Endosorb treatment.
Endosorb Overview
Endosorb contains an attapulgite as active ingredient. This chemical helps to clear out potential toxins and other harmful materials from your cat's gastrointestinal tract through a process of adsorption. Having removed these chemicals from your pet's stomach, intestines and colon, your pet will experience a significant decrease in overall levels of irritation, pain and cramping. Endosorb is available as a liquid suspension for larger animals, but veterinarians generally prescribe it in tablet form for cats and smaller dogs.
In addition to its adsorbent properties, Endosorb contains ingredients designed to relax your pet's gastrointestinal system and to aid the formation of solid stool. For this reason, Endosorb can be a useful treatment method for diarrhea regardless of the cause of the condition.
Treating Your Cat with Endosorb Tablets
If your pet suffers from diarrhea, take note of any other unusual symptoms or behaviors that you observe and bring that information with you when you visit the veterinarian's office. Your vet will work to diagnose your pet's condition and determine the cause of his diarrhea, and having a log of your pet's symptoms and their progression will be helpful in his analysis. If your vet finds that your pet's diarrhea is caused by a toxin in its system, Endosorb may be able to address the symptoms entirely. However, bacterial infections generally require an antibiotic or other form of treatment in addition to Endosorb, in order to sufficiently relieve your pet's diarrhea. In most cases, veterinarians do not prescribe Endosorb without other medications as well.
Exact dosage depends upon your pet's condition, prior health and weight. Veterinarians recommend providing your pet with ground up Endosorb along with meals twice per day. While treating your pet with Endosorb, it is essential that you provide him with a consistent supply of fresh water, as this drug can increase thirst.
Endosorb does not have any commonly occurring side effects. However, if your pet's diarrhea continues for more than three days after beginning treatment with this medicine, visit your veterinarian again for readjustment of dose and, if necessary, re-evaluation of your pet's condition.
Endosorb is a useful tool for eliminating feline diarrhea symptoms, but you must also work to address the cause of your pet's diarrhea. Failure to do so may lead to more serious health complications over the long term. Consult with your veterinarian immediately if your pet has diarrhea.
