Store bought kitten formula is the second best thing to a mother cat's milk. However, in some areas, finding formula powder for newborn cats seems impossible. Living in a remote area, hours from a city with large pet stores, makes it necessary to find a natural alternative to put in a kitten's bottle.

If you live in a remote area, there are two different formula replacements to offer before the kittens wean. The inexpensive options provide excellent nutrition until kitten formula is available or the kittens are eating solid foods.

Emergency Goat's Milk Formula

Cow's milk causes stomach upset and diarrhea. Goat's milk is a safer alternative for a young cat nursing from a bottle. The following recipe offers an emergency kitten formula using goat milk.

12 ounce can evaporated goat milk
12 ounces boiled and cooled water
1 tbsp full fat mayonnaise
1 packet Knox
2 tbsp full-fat plain yogurt

Evaporated Milk Formula

Canned evaporated milk is safer for a kitten than plain cow's milk. It's still best to use goat's milk, however. But in a pinch, you can use:

4 oz. full-fat evaporated milk
4 oz. boiled and cooled water
1 tbsp full fat mayonnaise
1 tsp corn syrup
1 capsule fish oil
