SynoviCre for Dogs

SynoviCre protects against joint disease. The supplement blends amino acids, minerals and vitamins that help repair and restore joint and cartilage tissue. It's beneficial for dogs with arthritis, hip dysplasia and other joint ailments.

You can find this essential joint supplement in pet stores. Expect to pay $20 to $130 depending on the manufacturer and number of tablets included in the packaging.

Ingredients in SynoviCre for Dogs

The key ingredients in the joint supplement are Creatine Monohydrate and Glucosamine HCI. The supplement also contains Perna Canaliculus and Vitamin E. All are found in many human and pet supplements and are proven safe.

Creatine Monohydrate energizes cells. The amino acid Creatine is produced by the kidney and liver, especially in meat eaters. For those dogs who get poor quality meat sources or follow a vegetarian diet, Creatine levels can be low. Studies find that daily use of Creatine Monohydrate is extremely beneficial for dogs that are extremely active. It helps with muscle and joint health.

Glucosamine has been used extensively in Europe to help treat arthritis in dogs. Glucosamine HCI not only helps repair damaged joint tissue, but it's also proven effective at helping skin tissue to heal. For dogs prone to skin problems such as hot spots or dry, itchy skin, Glucosamine HCI can help.

Perna Canaliculus comes from the Green-Lipped Mussel found in New Zealand. The mussel meat contains a blend of amino acids not found in other forms of seafood. The amino acids help repair joint tissue. Some research finds that Perna Canaliculus also helps reduce inflammation.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps lower bad fats in the blood and boosts good cholesterol levels. It also helps fight radicals within the body that are linked to cancer.

Dosages for SynoviCre for Dogs

SynoviCre generally comes in liver-flavored chewable tablets. Some companies also offer a powder supplement that you mix with your dog's food or water.

The dosage you offer depends on your dog's weight. Many manufacturers of this joint supplement recommend starting dogs off on a high dosage to build stores of the amino acids in the cells and then reduce the amount after six weeks for maintenance.

It's generally advised that pets weighing 30 to 60 pounds get two 600 milligram tablets per day. Dogs weighing 60 to 100 pounds get three tablets per day. Dogs over 100 pounds receive four tablets per day. Offer the supplement every other day for maintenance.

If you're using the powder formula, dogs weighing up to 15 pounds get ¼ scoop to start. Dogs weighing 16 to 30 pounds get ½ scoop. Give one scoop for dogs weighing 31 to 60 pounds, two scoops for 61 to 100 pounds and 2 ½ scoops for dogs over 100 pounds. For maintenance offer the supplement every other day.

Difficulties Finding SynoviCre for Dogs

In the late 1990's, the manufacturer was closed down by the FDA. The reason for the shut-down had nothing to do with the supplement itself. Instead, they were cited with poor quality control, inadequate employee training and inadequate maintenance of machinery.

Teva has since reopened but they are focusing their veterinary products on Endurosyn and Lactoquil, both aid digestive health.
