As long as you are using a reputable flea preventative such as Advantage, Frontline or another product from your veterinarian in an appropriate dose for the cat, there should be no ill effects associated with the application. These medications will only kill fleas or ticks and should not case any harm with other parasites present. The one medication that could be a concern is Revolution, as this kills heartworms as well as fleas. It is rare for cats to have heartworm infestations, but if this cat does applying Revolution could be deadly. Outside of heartworm preventatives, flea products will be safe. -Erika, DVM
