Dog healthcare: removing poison from yard?

My neighbor is trying to poison my dogs! The lady across the street has had two dogs poisoned and heard from a friend that the man living next to us bragged about poisoning them. He mentioned to this person that whatever he used killed the grass also. We have a large area of dead grass next to our fence and I'm terrified for our dogs! Iis there a way to treat the yard so the dogs will be safe without knowing what it is he used?

There are many different household chemicals that can be used to poison dogs. The most commonly known chemicals are antifreeze, mothballs and rat poison. If you are suspicious that a neighbor is trying to poison your animals and have a potential witness, call your local police office ASAP and make a report. Without knowing what specific chemical or compound is being used it is impossible to say for sure how to decontaminate a suspicious area of your lawn. However, it would be beneficial to pull up the dead grass in this area and remove the first 1-2 inches of possibly affected top soil. If would also be recommended to set up chicken wire or some other type of barrier to keep your dogs away from this area. It is very important to make a report to the police- if nothing else a knock on his door from a police officer may deter future deviances in behavior.

Could his illness and his contact with this animal be related? He has not been bitten or anything - he does pet it and one time rubbed his nose on its fur.TX
