How to stop my dog from eating cicadas
My dog eats as many cicadas he can find. He has his own fenced in yard and we cannot watch him all the time. They are giving him terrible gas. What can I do to help him with the gas?

Replied on 04/19/2011The only ways to effectively stop your dog from eating cicadas are to completely remove cicadas from his environment (an unlikely option) or to supervise him at all times when he has access to them and discipline him for eating them. To help your dog have less gas, you can switch to a higher quality diet for his dog food, such as a grain-free or commercially formulated raw food to decrease gas from those causes. It will likely not be possible to effect the gas he gets from eating the cicadas much unless you can decrease or eliminate them from his diet. Erika, DVM
