Dog Food Feeder Sanitization Process

The sanitization of your dog food feeder is very important to avoid the growth of bacteria.

Types of Dog Food Feeder Material

All dishes should be washed daily with hot soapy water:

  • Stainless steel bowls are very easy to clean and long lasting.
  • Ceramic is a porous material and dishes should be cleaned on a regular basis.
  • You should replace any bowls that have been scratched or chipped. A cracked or chipped bowl is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

Dog Food Feeder Contamination

If you believe the feeder or bowl has been contaminated with bacteria such as salmonella, use a bleach mixture to thoroughly disinfect:

  • Mix a solution of one part bleach to four parts water.
  • Do not use a sponge, bacteria can live in the sponge and they can be difficult to disinfect. Use a second rag to thoroughly wash the inside and outside of the feeder and bowl using an anti-bacteria soap.
  • Take at least ten minutes to wash the dishes.
  • Carefully tend to all the corners, nooks and crannies.
  • It's a good idea to have a second set of bowls and feeders handy while the others are being cleaned.
