Dog Jerky Treats for Dogs with Sensitive Stomachs

Dog jerky treats can provide a healthy chewing opportunity for your dog. If your dog has a sensitive stomach prone to gas, bloating or diarrhea, make or purchase low allergen jerkies made from poultry, salmon, venison or vegetables.

Avoid Chemical Flavorings and Allergens

Avoid "flavor basted" jerky treats. These are often coated with a chemical flavoring that can cause stomach upset. These coatings frequently contain sodium and preservatives as well and can stain light colored carpeting.

Read labels carefully: some brands of jerky contain more wheat, soy and sugar than meat. They are simply mixed and molded to look like meat strips.

Look for Top Quality Ingredients

To avoid gas and bloating, look for products that are one hundred percent meat and preserved with vitamin E (often labeled as mixed tocopherols). There are also jerky treats available that contain beneficial vitamins and herbs for anxiety, joint health and fresh breath.

Vegetable jerky made from sweet potatoes offers high levels of vitamin C and is well-tolerated by sensitive dogs.

Jerky treats can be broken into small pieces and used as a training aid.
