Why Does My Dog Sound Hoarse?

The dog barking may differ from breed to breed, from dog to dog. However, sometimes your dog may sound hoarse. You can solve the problem at home by administering treatment.

Your Dog Sounds Hoarse

You may notice that your dog tries to clean his throat but can't. His barking will be hoarse and sometimes there will be coughing. This is indicative of a sore throat.

Other reasons for the hoarse bark are laryngitis, pharyngitis or gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Relieve the Sore Throat

Your dog's sore throat and the hoarse barking can be fixed with some easy home-made remedies. Placing a humidifier in the dog's room is a good idea. The dog needs moist air and this will heal the sore throat quicker. Add a few drops of chamomile oil in the water.

In addition, you can give some warm tea to your dog. Prepare a lemon tea, but make sure the tea doesn't contain any caffeine, which will irritate the dog's nervous system. You can add some honey in the tea, but not more than ½ tbsp. Make sure the tea is not hot; this can cause burns in your dog's mouth.

The sore throat should be cleaned within a week. However, if the symptoms persist, visit your vet.
