Lazy Dogs? Vitamins That Energize

Sometimes dogs need vitamins to supplement their diet for optimal health. There are many types of vitamins available for your dog, some of which will provide your dog with more energy, without harming his body.

Dog Multivitamins

There are many excellent brands of dog multivitamins for sale in pet stores and available through veterinarians. Make sure that multivitamins have substantial amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin E, as these vitamins are essential in giving your dog the energy he needs to remain active. In addition to helping increase the energy levels of your dog, Vitamin E will help give your dog's coat a healthy glow, and Vitamin C will help protect your dog's immune system from disease and infection.

Stay Away from Energy Supplements

If you go to the pet store, you will probably see many times of energy supplements that make claims of drastically boosting the energy level in your canine. Frankly speaking, they do work to some extent; however, they are chocked full of unhealthy chemicals and other preservatives that are not good for your dog. You, and your dog, are always much better off with a quality multivitamin added into the dog's food every day. Multivitamins are not designed to give your dog the quick adrenaline rush that some energy supplements provide, but they are much healthier and better for your dog in the long run.

Check the Quality of Your Dog Food

Many times, a dog that is lazy or lethargic is sign that the dog is not getting enough carbohydrates or protein in his diet. Therefore, always check the back of the bag to check the carbohydrate and protein ratios in the dog food. Many cheaper brands of dog food simply do not include high enough levels of carbohydrates and protein.

The best way to ensure that your dog is getting the nutrients and vitamins that he needs to be at his best is to make sure that your dog eats a well balanced diet. There are many excellent dog foods on the market that offer everything your dog needs. While these brands of dog food won't be the cheapest available, they will probably help you avoid the added costs of unneeded vitamins or supplements (also, dogs get full from smaller portions of nutrient-rich food). Therefore, you may actually save money with a little more expensive brand of dog food.
