What's the Best Dog Waste Disposal System?

When it comes to finding a dog waste disposal system, you will have to consider a few factors including the environment and your safety, given that dog feces can carry a number of diseases that can be transmitted to humans. The best dog waste disposal system can be determined by you, according to your priorities.

Safety First

You may be aware of the fact that the dog feces can transmit various diseases and parasites to humans, carrying these zoonotic diseases. When getting rid of the dog waste, you will have to wear gloves and make sure you dump the feces in an area where no one will have access to it.

Some people prefer to gather the dog waste in plastic bags, which will be then dumped. This system can be safe enough, but if the plastic bags are damaged, the feces can be a health hazard. Choose water soluble bags, which can be flushed down the drain. Another method of disposing the dog waste is to gather the feces and flush it down the toilet without any other bags. This will ensure that the dog waste is gone and will no longer present a potential hazard to the family's health.

When it comes to determining which solution is the better, you will be the judge, depending on what you prefer. Both methods bear in mind your safety and will protect you and the people around you from a possible infestation.

Environmental Solutions

Some of the above mentioned methods of getting rid of the dog waste may not be respectful toward the environment. Placing the dog feces in plastic bags is not an environmental friendly solution, due to the plastic. However, you may opt for special biodegradable material bags.

There are two equally efficient solutions which can be effective in getting rid of the dog's waste:

  • A septic system, which will be a device buried in the ground (i.e.. in the yard) and deposit all the dog's feces in this area. The device will contain environmentally friendly substances that will destroy the fecal matter, eliminating the possible infectious agents as well.
  • Worm farms, which gain in popularity; the worm farm will consume the dog waste on a regular basis and the worms will not transmit any parasites or diseases to humans. The dog waste will be valuable nutrients for the worms.

Both the above mentioned environmentally friendly solutions are safe for human health, so you may opt for these. However, some people may not like the idea of worm farms or a septic system, as these require space.

Consider your options and decide which is the best dog waste disposal system for you.
