Supplements for Dogs with Cancer

Supplements for dogs with cancer are essential and can improve and prolong the life of the affected pets. A poor diet can lead to the weakening of the immune system and can cause various diseases in a dog with cancer. Dogs affected by cancer must get digestive enzymes, antioxidants and a wide range of other supplements.

Diet and Canine Cancer

Dogs affected by cancer should eat a natural, organic and raw diet. Kibble food is not appropriate for them. This diet has to be nutritious but also has to be enriched with natural supplements and vitamins so that the dog can fight the disease. The diet for a dog with cancer has to be:

  • Poor in carbohydrates, as the carbohydrates feed the cancer cells.
  • Lower in the amount of proteins, which also help the cancerous cells to develop. However, a small amount of high-quality proteins is recommended, as some amino acids from the proteins (glutamine, arginine) can help in the detoxification of the body.
  • Rich in unsaturated fats, which don't feed the cancerous cells. Unsaturated fats include the essential fatty acid omega 3, which can be found in flaxseed oil, fish and tuna oil. Normally, cancer cells can't use fat for energy, but it will use the omega 6 fatty acids, which can help cancer cells grow faster.

A high amount of unsaturated fats can induce pancreatitis in your dog, so tests should be performed. A vet can help you establish the right diet for your pet and keep an eye on his health while the dog is adjusting to the new diet. Other natural supplements should also be given to dogs with cancer to help them fight the illness.

Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes prove very useful in supporting the digestion and releasing precious energy for the pet with cancer. The dog should get the following digestive enzymes:

  • Protease, which will turn the proteins into amino acids
  • Amylase, which neutralizes the carbohydrates
  • Lipase, which will break down the saturated fats into fatty acids

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are an essential element in the prevention of cancer, and they can be of great help delaying the growth of the cancerous cells in the body. Antioxidants recommended include the coenzyme Q10, green tea, selenium and vitamins C and E.

A Recommended Recipe

Dogs with cancer may benefit from a diet that will be rich in sulfur protein and help release lipoproteins, which are beneficial in fighting cancer. The diet will consist of flaxseed oil and organic cottage cheese. A meal can contain one tablespoon of flaxseed oil and half a cup of organic cheese. The diet will result in the release of lipoproteins, reducing the cancerous tumors. This diet should be used for at least 3 months to be effective.

A proper diet along with a few natural supplements for dogs can improve the condition of your pet enormously and prolong his life.
