One of the simplest recipes for dog treats is one containing peanut butter and oatmeal as the main ingredients. The ingredients for this particular recipe are as follows:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1 cup of plain oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup of cornmeal
  • 3 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup low fat milk
  • 1/3 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp. of sugar
  • Dash of salt

To make these dog treats, begin by boiling the water in a saucepan. After a boil forms, add the oatmeal and the butter. Let the mixture soak in the pan for 8 to 10 minutes, and slowly add the remainder of the ingredients. Stir slowly until a stiff and hearty dough forms in the pan.

Knead the dough mixture for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth. On a floured surface, roll the mixture to the desired thickness and place it on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a golden brown color appears on the surface of the treats. Wait until the pan has completely cooled and serve to your pet.
