Homeopathic Feline Asthma Treatment

If your cat has asthma, his condition can range from mild coughing or wheezing on rare occasions, to extreme difficulty breathing. Asthma affects thousands of cats each year. Due to the frequency of feline asthma cases, there are a variety of feline asthma treatment options. Some are more effective than others, and none is entirely helpful against all cases of asthma in cats. If your pet has been diagnosed with asthma, consider the possibility of treating his condition or managing his symptoms with a homeopathic treatment regimen.

Goal of Homeopathic Feline Asthma Treatments

The goal of a homeopathic or natural treatment program for feline asthma, like a chemical or standard drug treatment, is to reduce inflammation in your cat's windpipe and lungs. These are the most frequent causes of feline asthma, and addressing this inflammation is often sufficient to significantly reduce the symptoms of asthma itself.

Homeopathic treatments for cat asthma are perhaps most usefully employed in mild to moderate cases of the condition. If your pet is suffering from a severe asthmatic attack or seems to have difficulty breathing, or if your pet has lost consciousness as a result of an asthmatic episode, take him to a veterinarian or emergency medical center immediately.

Types of Homeopathic Feline Asthma Treatments

Herbal remedies and vitamin supplements are the most common types of homeopathic asthma remedies.

Althea officinalis is a natural supplement designed to promote overall respiratory health. It opens up your pet's airways and allows for freer breathing. It is most typically available in the form of a cough syrup, and is intended for daily administration. As such, it is best utilized in cases where the asthma is mild but persistent. If your cat suffers from moderate asthma throughout the winter months, for instance, althea officinalis may be a good choice.

Inula helenium is another herbal supplement that is helpful in increasing your cat's respiratory function during asthmatic episodes. This herb has a similar function to althea officnalis, but is traditionally provided in pill form. If your pet prefers pills to a syrup, or if althea officinalis has proven ineffective at treating your pet's asthma, consider the use of inula helenium.

Evening primrose oil is a topical ointment that has traditionally been used for promoting healthy skin and fur. It has also recently been used for its anti-inflammatory effects as well, and can help to reduce signs of your cat's asthma.

Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Cod Liver oil supplements are especially helpful in older patients. In addition to encouraging overall healthiness, these three vitamins all serve to help increase respiratory function and to ease your pet's asthma.

Before providing your pet with any drug, whether it is a natural or homeopathic remedy or a chemical compound, speak with a veterinarian about your pet's condition. A proper diagnosis is crucial so that you ensure that you're addressing the correct condition.
