Pet Obedience School Features

Pet obedience school is a great foundation for avoiding pet behavioral problems later in life. This type of schooling for pets lays out an acceptable means of communication between a pet and a pet owner. The communication that pets learn through obedience training is paramount to making the pet-owner connection a livable and enjoyable one.

Accredited Instructors

One of the great benefits of pet obedience school is that many schools only hire instructors that are accredited in their profession. Accreditation can make all of the difference between a trainer that is efficient and productive in his abilities, versus a trainer who simply claims to be able to train a dog properly. The accreditation confirms to a pet owner that their pet is receiving the highest quality of training and that their money is well spent.

Pet obedience schools that use accredited trainers are highly beneficial to a pet owner. These instructors are trained in the ways of making a pet listen and obey, training a pet to understand human communication and helping a pet to learn what types of behavior are appropriate inside of the home.

Click Training

Sometimes a pet obedience school will enforce a training method known as click training. Click training is teaching a pet to learn by the sound of a clicker. Commands such as sit, lay, stay and roll over can be taught with the use of a clicker.

Many pet owners find this type of training to be greatly beneficial in that they no longer have to yell or continuously repeat a command to their pet. They simply use the clicker commands, the message is conveyed and their pet obeys.

Not all schools use click training in their most basic programs. However, schools that use accredited instructors more commonly institute click training as an effective way to train a pet.

Class Options

One of the benefits that pet owners find extremely helpful about pet obedience school is the class options. Most all schools will offer group class training sessions, as well as private one-on-one training sessions. This contrast in options leaves the decision entirely up to the owner as to how best to train their pet.

Group classes are usually intended for puppies and beginners that have not yet learned the basics of human command. The basics of human command, like sit and stay, are generally best taught in a group class where pets have the ability to learn from their counterparts and to experience praise from a group.

Solo classes, or one-on-one classes, are usually best reserved for pets that are experiencing behavioral problems in the home or do not understand how to properly communicate with humans. The one-on-one training time is extremely beneficial to pets that require more in-depth training and those that are easily distracted by other animals.

Agility Training

Pet obedience school can also help some pets to learn agility training. These types of classes are great for pet owners who are interested in showing their pets or displaying their pet's abilities at the competitive level.

In order to enter an agility training class, a pet will need to have successfully passed the basic obedience classes or be able to prove that they are properly trained and ready to enter the course.
