Where to Take Unwanted Cats

The number of unwanted cats is on the rise and it may increase even more in the future. If you have unwanted cats, you will have to find a home for them. There are a few options for your cats, but until you find an owner for them, you will have to keep them in your home.

Ask Friends and Family

Before worrying too much about the unwanted cats, you should ask family, friends and other people you know if they would be interested in getting a cat. You may find an owner for the cats, or they may recommend you other people they know and are interested in new pets.

Taking these people to see the cats or showing them pictures can give better results, as they the people you talk to will see what they may be missing.

Set Up an Ad on Websites

There are numerous websites that are dedicated to selling and buying pets and you may set up an ad with your cats, so that others may see them and perhaps get them. Don’t forget to mention your contact details.

Putting a picture and a brief description of the cats can be more convincing and you may get a future owner in no time. Be honest if the cats have a medical condition, as the future owner should be aware of this. Otherwise, the cat may end up on the streets.

You have the option of donating or asking for a price.

Make sure you find websites that have ads in your area, so that the people interested in your ad will be very likely from your area or from the surroundings.

Animal Shelters

Animal shelters are your last option. You should try finding a home for your cats before going to an animal shelter, as the animal shelters have a lot of animals that need a home and your cats may not get the attention they need. Some pets stay in these shelters for many months and some may never find an owner. Some shelters will euthanasize the unwanted pets.

Typically, animal shelters use vets, who will neuter the cats and offer the needed veterinary care, but there are a lot of shelters that lack financing, so the cats may not get the best care.

Whichever solution you opt for, you shouldn’t simply throw your pets on the street. This is simply not humane and the cats can be exposed to a wide range of risks such as traffic accidents or they can be attacked by other animals.

However, to prevent other unwanted cats, you should make sure to neuter your cats, even the ones you are giving away, so that they will not be able to breed.
