Administering dog worm medicine is the most proactive way to prevent your dogs from worm infestation. Puppies and dogs can come into contact with worms by bites (from fleas or mosquitoes), as well as from contact with an infected dog.Puppies and nursing dogs need to be dewormed every two weeks for the first two months of the puppy's lives. After the first two months, continue dosing once a month, until they are six months old (then only once or twice a year). This medication is taken orally.
If your dog doesn't take to swallowing pills, hide the pill inside a hot dog. For a more direct approach, insert the pill at the back of his throat, and massage his neck to trigger swallowing.
Heartworm medication should be administered orally once a month. Use the same method to encourage swallowing as you did with the deworming medicine.
Deworming medication for tapeworms is administered by injection. Contact your vet to schedule an appointment. Make sure your dog is relaxed beforehand, and reassure them during the procedure.
