Dosage for Cats

Amoxicillin is available in tablets (100mg-400mg), capsules (250mg-500mg) and oral liquid (50ml). Typical amoxicillin dosage is 5 to 10 mg per pound every 12 to 24 hours. However, the actual dosage for your cat will be best decided by your veterinarian after proper diagnosis.

Side Effects of Amoxicillin for Cats

A cat on amoxicillin can experience side effects such as shortness of breath, bloody diarrhoea, hives, rash, fainting, swelling of tongue, face or the lips, bruising, unusual bleeding or seizures. Some less severe side effects include vomiting, abdominal pain, nausea, fungal or yeast infection.

Precautions:

  • Caution should be used when giving amoxicillin to cats with allergies to medicines.
  • Animals with stomach, intestinal or kidney disease should use amoxicillin with caution as it can lead to problems with these conditions.
