Duralactin Canine for Dogs

Duralactin canine is an anti-inflammatory supplement designed to treat the inflammation of joints in dogs. It uses as its main ingredient milk protein concentrate which is believed to have an anti-inflammatory effect when used continuously. Duralactin is a supplement which does not require a prescription and can help to greatly reduce the long-term effects of osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis and Its Effects

Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis; meaning that it progressively occurs over time and cannot be reversed. Osteoarthritis is the process of the joint tissue slowly deteriorating over time. This is not a spontaneous condition or one which can be prompted, but rather it is typically genetic and more common in larger breed dogs.

The tissue that is located between the bones and the joints actually works as a shock absorber so that the normal functions of bending, walking and the use of limbs can happen. When osteoarthritis begins and as the joint tissues deteriorate, the bones and the joints actually rub together and cause a lot of pain.

Most dogs that are affected by this condition will not only have difficulty walking, but they will also be less apt to run and play as they normally would. This is where some type of medical treatment or supplement can be especially helpful.

How Duralactin Works

Duralactin uses a milk protein, known as MicroLactin, which predominately comes from cows. The milk protein appears to have the ability to ban a chemical known as neutrophil which triggers the inflammatory response in dogs. When this occurs, the inflammation of the tissues in the joints can be reduced and help to aid in the return of normal activities.

One of the important things to remember when using Duralactin is that it is a supplement and it cannot reverse the condition of osteoarthritis. However, it can reduce the swelling associated with osteoarthritis and help provide long-term relief.

How Duralactin Is Administered

Duralactin is only available in chewable pill format and carries a natural vanilla flavor which most dogs seem to find appealing. The Duralactin product maintains that you should dose your dog twice each day. However, the dosage amount will depend on the weight of your dog.

If your dog weighs less than 40 pounds, you will be instructed to provide him with one half of a table twice daily. If your dog weighs between 40 and 80 pounds, you will need to give your dog one tablet twice daily. And if your dog weighs from 80 to 120 pounds, you should give your dog one and one half tablet twice daily.

Side Effects of Duralactin

Side effects are extremely rare with the use of Duralactin and one of the main purposes that dog owners choose to use it as referred to prescription steroid medications. However, you should always be aware that side effects are a possibility.

Most commonly, vomiting and diarrhea may occur as the result of taking this supplement. However, if your dog is actually allergic to the milk protein, he could experience an allergic reaction.
