Invisible Dog Fence Pros and Cons

Installing an invisible dog fence is a suitable alternative to fencing in your dog. However, there are pros and cons to invisible fencing that pet owners often overlook.

Benefits to an Invisible Dog Fence

Invisible dog fencing is a great way to establish dog territory without blocking the view of your surroundings; you still see the road and all areas of your yard.

An invisible dog fence does not require your dog to be hooked to a run. There is no leash, which can be a choking hazard. In addition, children can strangle themselves if, while playing with their dog, they become trapped in the cable.

Unlike traditional fences, which are expensive and require yearly maintenance, invisible dog fencing is affordable, even for a larger yard.

Cons to Invisible Dog Fencing

Invisible fencing uses an electronic dog collar that emits an electrical zap when a dog comes too close to the fence line. If a dog crosses this line, he is not likely to return due to fear of getting an electrical charge due to being in that area.

While invisible fencing keeps your dog in the yard, it does not stop other animals from entering your yard. Neighborhood dogs have free access where they can attack your pet.

Invisible fencing requires a dog training session. You must spend time training your dog about what happens if he nears the boundary line.

If the power goes out, so will your electric fencing, unless you have an alternate energy source.
