Can I still get my cat spayed?

My cat is 1.5 years old and an indoors cat. Last night she ran out of the apt and we found her later with 2 other cats. She has been in heat for the past week and I'm afraid she may have mated and may possibly be pregnant. Can I still make an appointment to have her spayed since this just happened last night? I love kittens but we cannot afford more pets.

Call your veterinarian and explain what has happened. Most veterinarians will recommend getting her in as quickly as possible and spaying her. She may not be pregnant, but if she is it's so early in the pregnancy it won't be much different for her than a regular spay. The quicker she has surgery the easier her recovery will be so don't delay. -Kara, DVM

We took her to the vet tuesday morning and the vet informed us Tuesday afternoon that Muppet is now blind and then this morning she had a seizure. Could the anesthesia have caused this?

  • Colon restricted: common cat spaying side effects?

I had my kitten spayed and about a week later, the kitten could no longer defecate. After x-rays and rectal exams, it was concluded that the kitten must have a stricture in her colon. After 3 colon ballooning procedures were performed to no avail, surgery was performed. It showed that there was no stricture, but instead, trauma to the colon as a result of the spay (scar tissue formed a 'belt' around the colon; thus not allowing the cat to defecate). Is this a common side effect?
