If the eyeballs were popped out (even almost) from the eye orbit and were not treated (put back in place) quickly and the eyes were damaged or dying (necrotic) then the eyes would need to be removed.  This will require a very serious surgery, and I would anticipate a full recovery.  Kittens/cats can adapt well in an indoor environment without their eyesight.  The kitten would be considered a special needs kitten.  Immediate medical attention would be required in this situation, and if done soon enough the eyes may be saved.  Kittens are incredibly quick healers, and the recovery would be surprising.  An exam will also be done to be sure the trauma that caused damage to the eyes, did not also cause a head injury.

  • Is my kitten's 3rd eyelid showing due to being relaxed or infected?

My kitten is 3-4 mo. She has been on antibiotics for a week for a URI. Anti fungal for 3 days. Yesterday her 3rd eyelid started showing. I cant afford to take her to the vet for another 2 weeks due to her last bills. I have only noticed it when she is sleepy then it goes away when she is hyper or alert. • My cat's eyes are very dilated

My cat's eyes are very dilated. They will get smaller with light but the pupils are twice as big as my other cats. My cat (just a year old) has been sick for the last few months with several injuries which required sutures. She has been on antibiotics for almost three months off and on. Also she was given pain killers off and on. She came back from the vets office last week after the vet had to re-stitch an injury, with her eyes very dilated. It has now been a week and her eyes are still very dilated. They react to light, but not as much as the other cats and in the evening the pupils are enormous.

  • Kittens eyes seem to be stuck shut.

my kitten was stepped on by accident, our vet said that it looked like the front of her head was very swollen so that must be where she was stepped on. He gave her a cortisone shot to reduce the swelling. She is beginning to take water & move around a little. My concern now is that her eyes seem to be stuck shut. I have put water on them but wondered if there is a better solution?

  • Cat Eye Problems

My cat is just a little over a year old. I just moved into my apartment so he was being held for me at a friend's house with other cats for about a month. I noticed that the pupil of his left eye was a lot smaller than his right eye and it looks glassy or cloudy. He's been holding that eye shut too. Last night, there was some discharge coming from it and after I cleaned it out, his pupil was the same size as the other one. This morning he seemed normal but his eye was very watery.

My cat's eyes appear to have become more dilated slowly over the last 6 months. She has always had very striking big eyes. I had not thought much about it because it has been very gradual, but the last time I was at the vet they asked me about her eyes. After coming home I began to think more about it & wonder if I should be concerned about eye disease. I intend to ask the vet about it when I go back next week, but in the meantime would also like a second opinion. Should I be concerned?
