My dog had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine

my dog had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine. the vet gave her what he said was a "mass" dose of steroids. She then produced milk for 3 weeks and she was due to go into season on 08/26. she has not done so yet. Can a "mass" dose effect her cycle?

While this is a rare occurrence, it is entirely possible that a large dose of steroids could have caused the abnormal lactation. While the steroids given were probably not reproductive steroids, they were likely related to stress hormones normally produced by your dog's body. A large dose would affect the normal cycle of these hormones that could lead to a disruption in her reproductive hormones. Obviously she was affected as she lactated for three weeks. Because of this apparent disruption in her reproductive hormones, it is unlikely that her next cycle will be normal. After these abnormal events, her cycle should start to normalize again. If you had planned on breeding her, you should consult with your veterinarian about what kind of hormone treatments may be an option to bring her into season. -Erika, DVM

Is this just a part of her getting older? Thanks,Liz (& Binkey)

  • Is vomiting a dog allergy symptom?

I have a 2 year old GOlden Retriever- Yellow Lab mix. I have recently bought a new rug. A few days after I put the rug down, she began to vomit on it, a total of three times in three days, always on the rug. For this reason, as to not stain the rug, I rolled it up for two weeks. During the two weeks she didn't throw up at all. However, tonight, I unrolled the rug and immediately, only about an hour after, she vomited. Could the vomiting be caused by the rug?
