Does trans dermal prednisone cause more bone softening than oral administration in cats?

I have a 17 year old cat with daily vomiting & weight loss. Other drugs tried. Most recently prescribed is Prednisone? Told that trans dermal causes bone softening more than oral forms. Is this so? If so, over what period of time?

I don't believe it matters which form of prednisone is used. They will all cause increased calcium excretion, growth hormone and vitamin D inhibition and enhanced bone resorption. It may be that because we are unable to regulate and estimate absorption of transdermal medication as well as oral medication some animals will get more than they should from a transdermal form and so will show more side effects. Significant bone loss may take months to years to show up or may never be a problem, especially if proper nutrition is maintained. I think your cat has more to gain then lose by taking prednisone if he is vomiting daily has lost significant weight. The ability to keep food in his system and use it will be allow him to absorb and use the nutrients he is taking in, which is much better than what's happening now.

She hasn't really slept at all. I don't know exactly what they gave her, but when will it wear off?!
